American RV motorhome buyers’ guide
From the land of ‘super-size’ come these mammoth holiday homes on wheels – American ‘Recreational Vehicles’, or RV’s for short.
These motorhomes are typically far bigger than traditional European motorhomes, but what they lack in subtlety, not to mention fuel economy, they more than make up for in space, comfort and luxury. Often including full sized refrigerators and ovens, as well as king sized beds and washrooms with domestic spec fittings, they represent the very best in true on-the-road home comforts.
Traditionally American RV’s have been favoured for long tours or full timing around Europe, but they are now increasing in popularity in the UK and becoming a more frequent sight at holiday parks up and down the country. If you’re looking for a way to travel in the UK or Europe, without leaving your home comforts behind, then an RV could be just the ticket.
The first thing to remember is that with added luxury, space and spec comes added cost – expect to pay between £100,000 and £200,000 for many new models, though the huge range of high end RV’s on offer mean the sky’s the limit in terms of price. Compare this to the top end European style motorhomes, which rarely reach the £100,000 mark, and it’s easy to see that an RV is a huge investment that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
There are a surprising number of dealers dotted around the UK, so once you’ve had a look at a range of models online it’s worth a trip or two to visit various dealers and get a feel for the various layouts and features before you commit to a certain model.
There are a wide range of features available, from automated slide out living spaces and bedrooms which greatly expand the floor space, to built in showers and flat screen TV’s – so once you’ve viewed a number of RV’s with different features write a list of key features you’d like, in order of importance, then refer to this when making a decision.
The key is knowing which features and layouts meet your requirements best and keeping an eye out for a good deal, take your time and keep an open mind, sometimes the model you thought wasn’t for you turns out to be perfect when viewed in person.
Insurance is obviously a legal requirement for motorhomes, so before you hit the road with your new RV make sure you’ve got yourself an insurance policy that includes cover for everything you need. Due to the value of most RV’s, and the host of gadgets inside, its essential you get a solid insurance policy that covers the motorhome and its equipment – this includes gas bottles, security equipment and spare tyres, but also things such as flatscreen TV’s, audio equipment, microwaves and DVD players.
As well as a first-rate insurance policy it’s worth protecting such a high value vehicle with the very best in security. Satellite Tracking devices and Thatcham Category 1 approved alarms (widely accepted as the industry top standard) should certainly be considered. Not only do they provide fantastic security for your investment but you may also find that specialist RV motorhome insurance companies will reward you with discounts of as much as 30% for their fitment.
Breakdown cover can often be included with your insurance policy, but it’s vital that you find out from the insurer whether the breakdown company they use is capable of towing away your RV for repair. Some recovery companies have weight or length restrictions on their recovery services, and therefore can’t cover all sizes of RV, so make sure you check before you take out a policy.
If you intend on travelling in Europe as well as the UK make sure you check your insurance policy will cover you, and for an adequate amount of time – furthermore, some insurers will allow you to add European cover as an optional extra at anytime during your policy.
Making sure you have the right type of driving licence is another legal requirement, and the size of many RV’s dictates you need up to a Category C licence to drive them, so make sure you find out the weight of the RV’s you wish to purchase and get the necessary licence before you buy.

There are some incredible sights around the world, but none of them compare to a sunset over Morecambe Bay.

Truancy and Family holidays going hand in hand
School holidays have finished for most schools now and children all around the country are heading back to school ready for another academic year. As a result of the school holidays ending, the prices of some holiday destinations have begun to decrease with some tempting prices on the market.
However, parents with school children should try to resist the temptation as taking kids on holiday during school time is illegal and can result in fines. In the spring term this year, around 1.6 million were taken due to a family holiday of which only 80% were accepted by schools.
Before you book a family holiday during school term you should check with the child’s school to see if it is ok. If your child is only going to miss a day or 2 then the school may accept as long as it is not during a busy period (for example, an exam period). However, the school is well within its right to reject and expect the child to be at school.
At the moment the government can issue a fine of £100 to parents taking children out of school during term time so carefully consider your options before booking. Travelling abroad on a family holiday can be expensive and would you not be better off saving some money for an extra special one next year?
If your family has their heart set on a family holiday then why not consider holidaying right here in the UK. There are plenty of places where the family can have great fun such as holiday parks where there is fun for all the family with plenty of activities for children and shows in the evening for the adults.
The UK has a lot to offer as a holiday destination with so much culture and superb scenery to take in that many of us did not know even exist. The Lake District is a nice place to visit as it has some wonderful places to walk and enjoy, Skegness is another place where there is always plenty going on.
With a range of destinations in Wales and Scotland to also visit the UK is a great place to visit. Truancy is common in UK schools at the moment but all parents should keep their children in schools despite the lure of a cheap holiday that may be available in the coming weeks.

Alternative Holiday Options That Will not Break the Bank
A cheap holiday need not necessarily mean a bad holiday, after all it is the people you are with that counts. However, this being said no one wants to stay in a grotty hotel or bed and breakfast when they are suppposed to be away enjoying themselves. Many people for whatever reason tend to overlook what is directly on their doorstep when it comes to holidays, the first thing they do is look online for the best cheap holiday abroad. There is nothing wrong with going abroad, but with the price of the Euro against the Pound it has now become even more expensive, not only are you going to be paying more for your hotel, but the flights are more, hire cars, food in fact everything is more expensive.
Maybe it is now the right time to consider taking a holiday in the UK, ok the weather is not great but that aside there are so many great places to go and see and the best thing is it can be cheap. So what are the cheaper holidays you can go and enjoy, and how can you find them? You need to think clever, hotels and bed and breakfasts are usually more expensive, so in general these can be ruled out, especially in school holidays. The best option, especially if you have a family are the holiday parks and lodge parks, why? Well because they are cheaper, offer great facilities and have family orientatated entertainment all include in the price.
Most people when they think of holiday parks have the sterotypical view of the older holiday parks, does Hi De Hi (excuse the spelling) ring any bells, knobbly knees and beauty contests. Well this now could not be further from what they are like (well most of them). Like everything in the modern world they have had to adapt and change to cater for the new age of people and their wants and needs. The holiday parks and lodge parks are now modern, well equipped, clean and fun places to spend your summer holidays or a short break. There are even categories of holiday, so if you are on the look out for a quieter break then you can choose a less lively park and vice, versa. So if you are considering going away this summer with the family it comes highly recommended to take a look at the holiday parks and lodge parks and see what they can offer you and your family.
Lake District Holiday Lodges
When most people go on holiday, hotels and guesthouses seem to be popular choices, but with not much to offer other than a room with a bed people are starting to look for alternatives.
The Lake District has been a popular UK holiday destination for years and has a wealth of accommodation options, but none of them really offer the holiday maker anything to write home about. South Lakeland Parks are changing all of that.
By offering holiday makers more of what they want when they go on holiday, South Lakeland Parks’ holiday resorts are becoming a popular choice when it comes to Lake District accommodation. One of the reasons that make them so popular is the range of accommodation, a range that includes holiday lodges.
Lake District Holiday Lodges are a popular choice amongst families and groups of friends that holiday together. Holiday lodges provide more space than a hotel or guesthouse bedroom. As well as offering more space, they also offer a social living room so that everybody that you are on holiday with has a place to socialise without having to eat out or go to a bar.
Of course, this isn’t the only advantage that South Lakeland Parks’ holiday parks offer. Each park has an array of on-site facilities that range from bars and restaurants to swimming pools and an outdoor children’s play area and everything in between, not many Lake District hotels can boast all of that.
South Lakeland Parks have a selection of Lake District Holiday Lodges depending on which holiday park you choose to visit. All three Lake District holiday parks offer Deluxe Lodges and Super Deluxe Lodges, but the popular resort of White Cross Bay also offers a Classic Lodge.
Each lodge has its own style and features, but all lodges include gas and electric, a colour TV, bath and shower facilities, a lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen. The Deluxe Lodges and Super Deluxe Lodges include a DVD player, a radio / CD player, central heating and more. All accommodation includes Leisure Passes so that you can enjoy all of the facilities that each of the parks has to offer.
You will find everything you need in your Lake District Holiday Lodge for your comfort and enjoyment. All you will need to bring are your toiletries, washing up items, and holiday luggage.

All Inclusive holiday parks ? the new family favourite
Holiday parks have been UK family favourites for many years, many of the most popular and well known resorts have been going since the 1930s and have hosted millions of families vacations ever since. With the dawning of the commercial flight industry many Britons were now able to afford to fly to other countries such as Spain and Greece as well as much further distances like America and Africa, but now it looks like the traditional British holiday park is enjoying a comeback.
For many people the current financial crisis has meant many families cannot afford the steep costs of flying and with all sorts of extra hidden charges on even the budget airlines it’s not hard to see why people are more interested in holidaying in the UK.
The UK family holiday parks tend to be built around having the entire holiday package in one place and that everything is included in the price you pay. This means that not only are you paying for your accommodation and all your meals but all the entertainment and activities are included also.
With them being family holidays it doesn’t mean that all the activities and fun is for the kids, there is plenty of adult themed entertainment with musical acts and comedy nights as well as spas and high rope courses. Of course there’s plenty for children to do exclusively with a wide range of sports and fun activities like bowling and laser quest.
The accommodation options are almost as diverse as the activities with many options available to people going on holiday such as luxury hotels, many with amazing seafront views. Other options include self catered apartments or rustic log cabins, camping and caravanning are also possibilities as the options available vary between the different resorts and companies.
With all your meals arranged for you then there’s extra savings to be had as well as the assurance that you can spend all day enjoying yourself and not have to worry about sorting your dinner in the evening. Those who wish to go self-catered are able to cook their own meals should they wish so in some self-catered accommodation too.
It’s no surprise from reading this how popular UK holiday parks have been and with many people booking summer holidays to these destinations rather than abroad this year.

Holiday lodges have become a popular choice for family holiday accommodation in recent years. There are a number of different reasons why holiday lodges have become so popular, but the main ones are social and economic.
Some of the best holiday lodges in the UK are in holiday parks in the North West and are operated by South Lakeland Parks.
If you normally go on holiday abroad, you have so much to pay for; travel to the airport, flights, travel to the hotel, the hotel itself, travel back to the airport and travel back home from the airport, not to mention souvenir shopping and food and drinks etc. If you choose to stay in the UK for your holiday because you aren’t paying for flights and travel to the airport, you can afford to stay somewhere luxurious without spending as much as you would had you gone abroad and the best type of accommodation to do this in is a holiday lodge.
Because holiday lodges are found on holiday parks there is a social and friendly atmosphere which makes them fantastic places for meeting domestic and international holiday makers. South Lakeland Parks’ holiday lodges are in locations where you have access to the best beaches, the best countryside and tourist sites in the UK. Imagine waking up in the morning in your holiday lodge and only being a short walk away from the beach, the lake or miles of open countryside.
At the end of a hard day’s relaxing or exploring, you can head to the on-site bar for a hard earned beverage and take in some live entertainment, all the while only being a short stroll away from your holiday lodge.
The holiday lodges available at the holiday parks operated by South Lakeland Parks include everything you could need for an enjoyable holiday, from the classic holiday lodge right through to the super deluxe holiday lodge.
In all the holiday lodges you’ll find gas and electric, a bathroom with a shower, a fully fitted kitchen and a TV, but in the super deluxe holiday lodge, you get a few extras like a DVD player in the living room and a TV in the master bedroom.
At South Lakeland Parks, you get great accommodation, great locations and great times when you stay in their holiday lodges in the UK and they are rapidly becoming one of the leading choices for UK holiday accommodation.
Superb Family Holidays During The May Bank Holiday
Money is still an issue for most people which is why a trip abroad may not be possible and also given the recent problems with the volcano in Iceland and flights being cancelled you do not want to miss out on any of your days away. Flights are very reliant on many external circumstances and as a result holidays can often be problematic and when you only have a long weekend you do not want to waste any of your days waiting around an airport.
This is the reason why UK holidays have become more popular amongst many people and with the range of destinations and activities to choose from there are plenty of reasons why you should stay in the UK to have some fun this May bank holiday. One possible destination is the lakes as there is some superb scenery to take in and with some great accommodation available they provide all families with a great UK break.
Accommodating for the needs of your little ones is always something parents consider and this is not always easy. However the holiday parks have made some great arrangements so that your children can have some fun playing games and meeting new friends whilst under the careful supervision of qualified and trained staff members.
Another option is to choose one of the holiday parks that can be found in the UK. These holiday parks have long been a favourite of many people because they offer something for the whole family as well as some great entertainment and plenty of opportunities to kick back and relax. Various short breaks in the UK
The UK tourism industry is beating the recession and experiencing a current boom. Indeed it is because of the recession that tourism in the UK is seeing an increase with holidaymakers opting for UK short breaks instead of foreign holidays.
Popular holiday parks in areas such as Devon and Cornwall, Brighton and other areas of the UK are seeing increased demand from British holidaymakers, with holiday parks and caravan holidays making a comeback.
What type of UK holidays are available to British holidaymakers though?
Firstly there are the holiday parks offering caravan holidays for families. These holiday parks feature everything onsite that holidaymakers could want, from entertainment to catering, from recreation to shops. Holidaymakers could easily spend their entire holidays in the full service holiday parks without ever leaving the site. These sorts of short breaks are perfect for families with children due to the entertainment on offer for the kids.
Other sorts of UK holidays are the smaller holiday parks which cater for older couples without children. These parks offer caravan holidays for those looking for a much quieter time, for people who enjoy reading, walking and fresh air away from the city.
The smaller caravan parks are focused on touring vans and tents rather than static caravans and can be perfect for a quiet week away from it all.

Bognor Regis ? A perennial Family Holiday destination
When looking for holiday destinations many families have a few criteria in mind and it typically goes like this: There needs to be a beach, plenty of activities to keep children occupied and something to entertain the adults as well as allow them to relax. It used to be the case that you could only fulfil these goals by jetting away to some coastal Mediterranean resort, but these days it’s more likely to be closer to home than you’d think!
Many UK holiday destinations have had their best year for a long time and so much so that many holiday resorts are not only building new hotels to cope with next year’s demand but also much more money is being invested in the UK tourism industry as more families either feel the pinch of the credit crunch but also families are finding flying and all the trappings (delays, cancellations, extra costs) of doing so such a hassle that they would have just as good a time here in the UK.
One such destination that has caught many UK tourist’s eye is Bognor Regis, Bognor Regis like many UK coastal resorts used to enjoy huge success in the UK back twenty or thirty years ago. Since the airplane became feasible a lot of the usual holiday crowd left and Bognor Regis became a distant memory.
But as mentioned before: UK holiday hot spots have become immensely popular as they reinvent themselves as the new family choice for holidays that the whole family can enjoy. Of course there are the beaches that have been attractions for many years but the holiday parks and family friendly hotels are what have really proven to be a big hit with the UK public.
These holiday parks are now home to hundreds of activities and sports that children can get involved with as well as activities for the adults including a relaxing spa for a whole host of relaxing treatments to help you forget about the working life. In the evenings the entertainment doesn’t stop with plenty of current and past favourites singing, dancing and plenty of other variety acts that are a big hit with the UK crowds.
So if you’re looking for family holidays that will keep everyone entertained then consider Bognor Regis or any of the other many UK holiday destinations to make sure that the whole family has a fun time for their next time away together.
Bognor Regis Holidays are just one of the many UK holiday resorts that are popular these days, check out the many holiday parks along the British coast for the ideal family holiday.

Weekend Breaks and Family Holidays
The kids are back at school and its time for the routine to start again, wake up, get them up, dressed, eat breakfast and get them to school. This is the routine that you have (with the odd week break for half term) for the next 8 months or so. This can become very tedious so why not start planning for your next family outing.
This may be a weekend break with the kids or maybe you fancy a break at Christmas. Whenever you plan on going, the UK has plenty of choices for you and the array of destinations means you should be able to find something for the whole family whether you are looking for fun and games for all or a nice relaxing break.
Christmas is the next big holiday and although it is over 3 months away, it tends to arrive as quickly as it goes. More and more people are going away for Christmas to avoid the stress and hassle that is associated with the preparing and cooking of the traditional family dinner, presents and all the little surprises that the festive period tends to through at us. Going away for the Christmas means you can let others take the stress and hassle out of the period and let you enjoy your break.
Holiday parks are a very popular choice for many people opting to stay in the UK and at Christmas time these parks are packed with festive cheer. The holiday parks have a wide range of activities available for parents and children with festive pantomimes being a favourite amongst everyone.
For the younger children there is the chance to visit Santa in his grotto and make Christmas that extra bit special. Special shows are put on in the grand halls that the holiday parks have which make a visit a fantastic experience. As well as the Christmas specials there are still the fun and games going on that you can experience all year round such as sports and games for the children and great places to kick back and relax for the parents (if they want to).
We all know how quickly Christmas comes around, every December we all find ourselves asking “how is it that time of year already”! This makes it even more important to start planning for a Christmas break and the UK holidays parks are a great option for all families.
