If you are planning a family holiday there are a few things that you should look out for so to ensure you get the most out of your holiday and that everyone has fun. Here are some things to consider before booking;

Time of year

It probably seems obvious but consider the time of year you are going. You may have got a really cheap deal that seems too good to be true but when you get there every major attraction is closed. Depending on your holiday destination, some of the major attractions may not be open if you choose to go out of peak season.

Some towns and cities rely heavily on tourism and as such put all their efforts and money into making the holiday season great fun and entertainment for all. Consider going with friends

If you know another family that have children then consider going with them as well. You may find that discounts are available for group bookings and it will also mean the children have friends there to play with, leaving you more time to relax without entertaining them yourself.

Going with friends also means you can share the babysitting duties which can be stressful and exhausting. It is recommended that you get separate accommodation but if you get on really well with the other family there is no reason why you can’t all share.

Things to do

There must be plenty to do, especially for the children. Swimming pools are a must have as they are great fun, due to the weather in-door swimming pools are probably going to be found more commonly but if the pool is outdoor then make sure it is heated. A play area or kids club for the children is really important to entertain them and give you some time to yourself.

Ensure all areas of the resort are well secure with lifeguards around the swimming pool and fully trained employees in charge of the kids club. This will give you the peace of mind required to enjoy your break.

Holiday parks are a great option with plenty for the kids to do during the day and great shows from leading performers for everyone to enjoy at night.

Before setting off for the airport this summer careful preparation is required so that when you finally sit back in your seat aboard the aeroplane looking forward to your break you’ll know that you’ve got everything covered.

As with most things in life planning is the key to success. So, ensuring that you are in possession of all necessary documents including passports, travel tickets, accommodation voucher and car hire confirmation is essential if you are to avoid possible holiday woes.

Additionally, planning can never be done too early, especially when it comes to ensuring that your passport is still valid and whether you need a visa to enter the country of your destination. Even countries that do not require a visa for entry may still not allow British passport holders into their country if there is, say, less than six months to expiry date of your passport. It is important that you know the immigration rules of the country you are visiting.

Also, the requirements for travelling to the USA have recently changed. Britons travelling under the visa waiver programme must now register online, at least 72 hours prior to departure, disclosing their personal and travel details. Anyone arriving at the airport who has not pre-registered will be turned away and prevented from flying. This advice is especially relevant if you are pondering booking a last minute holiday. As payment is normally required in full for departures within 12 weeks your money will be wasted if you find that you cannot renew a passport or register for travel in time!

Regardless of which country you are travelling to, travel insurance is always a worthwhile consideration. Hopefully, like the majority of UK travellers overseas you won’t ever need to make a claim, but the peace of mind offered by being covered will ensure a stress-free holiday.

Most non-EU countries will insist on payment for any medical costs incurred and the majority of travel insurance policies include medical expenses cover in the millions of pounds; certainly enough for almost any eventuality. If travelling to EU countries remember to take your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you. Again, this needs to be ordered in advance and normally takes up to 10 days before delivery. However, an EHIC card should be used in conjunction with travel insurance and not as a substitute. Most insurers will offer incentives such as waiving excesses if in possession of a EHIC card, so it is worth getting one.

Lastly, make a document checklist in advance of travel and tick off all the items as you pack then you can look forward to a superb holiday!

Cornwall has always been a favourite holiday destination and its dramatic coastline, picturesque villages, vibrant culture and sumptuous cuisine. For those visitors who have travelled to the region, the benefits of a Cornish holiday need no explaining, but for our international friends, who have yet to explore outside of London, a visit to Cornwall will give you a very different taste of English life. In this article, I describe one of my favourite walks in Cornwall and thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Parts of the walk between St Agnes and the Jericho Valley have been trodden so often by my sturdy boots, that they practically know their own way. It’s one of my favourite stretches of coastal path for its spectacular views across the turquoise waters to the huge stretch of beach at Penhale; the ever-present tang of salt hanging in the air; the dramatic cliffs bordered with a mosaic of gorse, heather and thrift; plus it conveniently links my house with the beach, the pub and my favourite seaside restaurant.
St Agnes was once a busy centre of mining activity, the relics of which are dotted all around this walk. Today it is still a very community-minded village with a friendly population boosted during the summer by the visitors attracted by the village’s charming unspoilt character, its beautiful coastline and popular beach. The village is well equipped for walkers, with some beautiful, quintessentially English cottages and hotels ( http://www.cornwalltoday.co.uk/Accommodation/Bed+and+Breakfast/Newquay+and+Perranporth.aspx ), and some superb restaurants which take advantage of Cornwall’s fantastic local produce. 
On this walk you’ll first head southwards on the coast path up a fairly steep climb away from the picturesque Trevaunance Cove. Just above the beach if you peer down at low tide you’ll see the scattered stones of the former harbour walls, deposited when storms swept it away in 1915/16. At a higher tide with a gentle swell you may see one or two of the resident seals putting in an appearance.
Continuing along the coast path you’ll be rewarded with amazing views – careful though, some of the drops are quite sheer in places. You’ll pass a number of capped mine shafts and a couple of benches where you can enjoy the view of Bawden Rocks, also known as Man and His Man. Every summer daring swimmers from the village swim the mile out to this rock and back.
After about half a mile along the coast path you head inland and up towards the Beacon, the 192 metre high hill that overlooks St Agnes. Legend has it that a giant called Bolster could stand with one foot on The Beacon and the other on Carn Brea six miles away. If you fancy a detour then trek up it for some fantastic views from Padstow in the north, to the clay country and south to St Ives.
Otherwise the route skirts the bottom of the Beacon, and then follows a path to St Agnes village. Here locals bustling about their day-to-day business will be brushing shoulders with day-trippers and holiday makers. Stop for a browse around some of the fascinating arts and crafts galleries, or pause for a coffee outside the St Agnes Hotel. If you feel like staying overnight, there is some lovely holiday accommodation in the area, as well as a very high standard of local pubs and restaurants. Next you’ll see the quirky row of sea captain’s cottages known as Stippy-Stappy, then follow the road for a short time before you descend off left into Trevellas Combe. Following a clear trickling stream through woodland, you’ll pass the isolated Jericho Cottage, once owned by renowned Cornish artist John Opie. Near here, we got a fright when a grass snake slithered across the path in front of us. 
You emerge out of the valley at Blue Hills Tin Streams, where you can see a working water wheel and tin smelting in the traditional way. Then perhaps stop at Trevellas beach for a paddle. Head up the steep hill to the left of the beach. It’s a toughie this one, but there’s a strategically placed bench half way up! At Easter this area is buzzing with an array of classic cars racing their way around a track. 
You can get round this walk in a speedy two and half hours, but I think you should allow about four. In that time you’ll have journeyed through centuries of life in this colourful part of Cornwall and should go home with a real taste of how this friendly community has evolved in that time.

When selecting a destination for the annual family holiday this year people may be looking more at places in the UK as opposed to places abroad, this isn’t just because of the financial downturn but the hassle of flying is now becoming too much for many families.

Flying now means that you have to pay more as the industry is being levied by the government as it is a very environmentally harmful way of travelling and this makes many budget airlines charge extra for all manner of strange things such as charging for traditional check-ins as opposed to the new online method.

If the weather takes a turn for the worst then all is not lost, there are many indoor based entertainment facilities to pass the time, some people may enjoy getting wet and so a trip to the Skegness Cable Ski Centre would be well worth checking out.  You can try wakeboarding or water skiing with tuition available if you’re just a beginner its great fun if you don’t mind falling in a few times whilst you’re learning.  It is actually easier than regular water skiing as you are towed by an overhead cable and not by a boat which can create choppy waves which often knock over the learners.

2. Set An Advertising Budget (And stick to it!)

Clearly it would be disappointing to find that despite your best efforts, you have actually spent so much money in promotional and advertising costs, that it has wiped out any potential profit from your total rental income. In the world of business, many companies would tend to set a marketing budget of anywhere between 5% & 10% of their total annual turnover. This would seem to make sense, and if you see your investment or holiday rental property as a business- which I suggest you should-then you can use this 5-10% figure as good guideline in helping you to set a sensible advertising budget.

A marketing director of a well-known company was once alleged to have said that he believed about 50% of his marketing budget produced profitable returns. The problem was, he didn’t know which 50%!
